Sunday Shul—Teachers Wanted!
Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture is looking for 2 teachers for its Sunday Shul program. Sunday Shul is a fun, interactive class that provides toddlers and preschoolers hands-on experiences in an effort to educate about Jewish holidays, values, and traditions. Sunday Shul runs the first Sunday of every month starting in October. There are two classes: children ages 1-3 where parents stay and participate, and children ages 4-5, where parents drop-off their child. Aids are available to assist in both classes.
Classes have a maximum number of 10 students per class. Teachers must be able to attend all classes. Dates are: October 1, November 5, December 3, January 7, February 4, March 4, April 8, and May 6. Classes are 90 minutes from 10:00 – 11:30 AM except the October class, which is 3:00-5:00 PM so that the children can participate in the sukkah decorating. Compensation is $125/class. Materials will be purchased or reimbursed by the Vilna.
Writing curriculum for each class, as well as creating linking/unifying each class into a year-long curriculum
Collaborating with other teacher and Vilna’s Director of Programming, Lynne Krasker to create curriculum and class activities
Provide supply list to Vilna in advance so supplies can be ordered for class or purchase supplies for class for reimbursement
Teaching and facilitating a dynamic class environment that focuses on having interactive, positive learning experiences and makes Jewish learning fun
Possess a good knowledge of Jewish holidays, values, and traditions
Proven ability working/teaching children ages 1-6 years of age, and managing their parents
Ability to work independently, manage time, handle pressure, and meet deadlines/goals
Ability to share information concisely and quickly; work within a predetermined budget
Attention to detail and accuracy; ability to communicate clearly and set realistic expectations for co-staff, parents and other stakeholders
Exceptional management and interpersonal skills as well as ability to develop relationships with individuals and organizational leaders
Flexibility, sense of humor, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities in a changing landscape
