Event Description:Robert (Bob) H. Lessin is Vice Chairman of Jefferies & Company, Inc., a full-service investment bank and institutional securities firm based in New York. Mr. Lessin is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment banking activities, which include financial advisory, capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, and restructuring services. Jefferies is involved in all aspects of the capital markets, providing outstanding trade execution in equity, high yield, convertible and international securities, as well as fundamental research and asset management capabilities, to institutional investors. Mr. Lessin is also Chairman of Dawntreader Ventures (formerly SoundView Ventures).
Mr. Lessin began his career at Morgan Stanley where he became the youngest-ever partner in 1987, Vice Chairman of the Investment Banking Operating Committee in 1990, and Chairman of the Investment Bank’s Strategy Committee in 1993. Most recently, Mr. Lessin was Vice Chairman of Salomon Smith Barney.
Throughout 1997, Mr. Lessin became widely known as one of the country’s leading venture investors. A visionary financial entrepreneur, Mr. Lessin has backed nearly 100 firms and according to some, “has almost single-handedly raised the profile of angel investing in a region that was cash-rich but Web-wary,” (Business 2.0, January 2000).
A Brooklyn native who grew up in Lexington, MA, Mr. Lessin is a graduate of Harvard College (1976) and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School (1978).
